Major League Soccer is set to return all 27 of its U.S.-based clubs to the U.S. Open Cup in 2027, ending three years of reduced participation in America’s oldest soccer competition. The competition will also be revamped, with MLS clubs reportedly entering in July and the final moving to December. Full participation will return for the first time since 2023, after only 16 MLS teams competed in 2026. The decision represents a vital reconciliation between MLS and the U.S. Open Cup, while restoring a clearer connection between the country’s top division and its historic open knockout competition. 🔗 Click the link to read more 2.
